Qual è il ruolo della formazione nel cammino di emancipazione - sociale e culturale - della donna? Questo volume ripercorre il difficile cammino di autonomia intellettuale, economica, sociale delle donne alla luce di una storia, anche molto antica, che racconta esistenze femminili quasi sempre vissute secondo ordini simbolici - che intrecciano formazione e diritti umani - estranei a se stessi, secondo logiche e regole neutrali solo interpretate e inscritte in una cultura maschiocentrica. Filo conduttore è l'impegno delle scienze della formazione nel recuperare, valorizzare e diffondere i saperi delle donne, nonché il "diritto al sapere" delle donne, al duplice fine: riscattarli dall'alveo della minorità nel quale sono stati relegati rispetto al sapere maschile, riconoscere e legittimare socialmente, culturalmente e "politicamente" sensibilità e competenze delle donne di fatto sminuite, estendendole alla molteplicità dei contesti di vita e di formazione.
